Paralegal – Insolvency Group

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides Paralegal support for four (4) bankruptcy attorneys
  • Duties include tracking deadlines, developing action items/goals for each case and ensuring timely/collaborative communication with attorneys
  • Preparation of all documents, including pleadings, exhibits, affidavits, motions, etc.
  • File and record documents with courts and other governmental offices, request checks for related fees, and communicate with others as necessary to accomplish the filing and recording of documents
  • Retrieve pleadings and documents filed in our jurisdictions through PACER or comparable services
  • Prepare case synopses for new litigation filed in Tennessee for clients and report findings to the attorneys
  • Follow standard protocol for opening new matters
  • Close and archive files in a timely manner, following standard protocol
  • Record time spent on billable and non-billable matters on a daily basis in the Firm’s law practice management software
  • Post all expenses to be billed back to client in the Firm’s law practice management software
  • Work independently in the absence of specific instructions – be proactive in follow-up, track deadlines, manage timing and action plans for completing tasks, and report regularly to attorneys regarding deadlines and action plans
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to all client and Firm-related information

Qualifications – Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Paralegal degree a plus
  • Experience with Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy procedures preferred
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic office equipment functionality (e.g., fax, scanner, copier)
  • Must possess project management/case management skills
  • Exhibit excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Be detail and process oriented
