The History of GSRM Law
Gullett Sanford Robinson & Martin PLLC (GSRM Law) was formed in 1986 with the merger of Martin & Cochran (established in 1942) and Gullett, Sanford & Robinson (established in 1957 as White, Gullett, Phillips & Steele). Westlake, Marsden & Montgomery merged with the firm in 2003. MTR Family Law merged with the firm in 2022 to establish the firm’s Family Law Practice Group.
GSRM Law is known for its tradition of legal scholarship and service. For example, one of the firm’s founders was a Justice of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. GSRM’s former partners have served as Chief Judge of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court of Middle Tennessee.
GSRM Law’s former partners have also received appointments to governmental positions, such as General Counsel to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Attorney General of the State of Tennessee, and General Counsel to the Vice President of the United States.
The firm’s tradition of service continues today as members of the firm:
- Author treatises and portions of the Tennessee Code
- Present legal education seminars
- Teach at the Nashville School of Law
- Serve as leaders for the Nashville Bar Association Pro Bono Program
